About the role

The Project Execution Branch of the Facilities Services Division is responsible for the construction of new schools and repair and modernization of existing schools as part of a multi-year bond funded capital improvement program. The branch ensures that existing campuses are modernized and repaired in support of the education and safety of our students and staff using cost-efficient and sustainable materials.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, oversees and coordinates all facets of the construction phase of a school facility project including mobilization, construction, and closeout.
  • Plans, organizes, directs and reports project management activities and progress to upper management.
  • Captures and manages project budget and schedule to meet the District’s qualitative standards.
  • Performs day-to-day contract administration including assisting the Senior Project Managers in bid analysis, pre-construction meetings and related award coordinating activities.

Requirements

Promotional status is required. Must be a current or retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which you passed probation.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or business administration.
  • Possession of a valid Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential may be substituted for the required education.
  • Five years experience in project/construction management of commercial and/or public/educational facility construction with full responsibility for coordinating complex projects ranging in construction value from $8M and above.
  • Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS).
  • Valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer by the California State Board of Registration of Civil and Professional Engineers, or a valid Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential by the Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI).
  • A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the state of California and the use of a motor vehicle.

Skills

Seasoned construction management professional with extensive experience overseeing large-scale construction projects, including managing budgets, schedules, and ensuring adherence to contracts and specifications. Strong track record of providing work direction and guidance to lower-level project managers, coordinating with contractors and public agencies, and solving complex problems while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Deep understanding of public contract law, DSA processes, and school construction practices, skilled in negotiating change orders, managing fiscal resources, and ensuring the successful completion of projects on time and within budget. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, essential for effectively leading meetings, providing clear directives, and maintaining close collaboration with all project stakeholders.
