About the Role

The Resident Assistant/Personal Care Aide (PCA) provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living to residents of the community. Reports incidents involving residents—including care concerns or issues—to appropriate individuals (e.g., HCD, RN/LPN, or ED). Must maintain a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position.

Responsibilities

  • Assists residents with activities of daily living.
  • Performs housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, and the dining room, as directed by supervisor.
  • Responds promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts; must remain calm and competent during emergencies.
  • Assists in planning and conducting activity programs for residents.
  • Follows confidentiality policies regarding the release of resident information.
  • Assists residents to and from the dining room and activities.
  • Checks on residents, ensures attendance at meals and activities, and monitors residents who are ill, reporting status or concerns to appropriate individuals.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers.
  • Assists new residents with move-in transition, providing emotional support.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successfully completed approved personal care aide program per state regulations, as applicable.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel.
  • Contributing member of the nursing team; follows instructions of supervisor.
  • Polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times.
  • Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs and push or carry 25 lbs.
  • Able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics.
  • Must wear designated uniform during working hours, including name badge.
  • CPR/First Aid certified or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Represents the community in a positive and professional manner.
  • Attends and completes all required in-services and staff meetings.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
