Responsibilities
- Provide our residents with assistance as they accomplish daily tasks, including reminders for personal hygiene, dressing and grooming to train residents in daily self-care practices
- Provide our residents with assistance with meal preparation
- Provide our residents with assistance as they accomplish daily tasks such as personal laundry and care of their living quarters to train residents household-care practices
- Maintain all care records in accordance with company policy
- Document, report, and review residents’ daily progress, needs, medical issues, and behaviors in accordance with company policy
- Communicate problems, concerns or issues to house manager as needed
- Maintain a safe environment for residents by overseeing that all residents take their medication as directed by their health care providers
- Build rapport with residents by establishing personal connections and showing interest in their lives
- Accompany residents on community outings
- Respond to any safety or medical issues and document them properly
- Lead daily group and individual activities for entertainment
- Converse with residents to reinforce positive behaviors and to promote social interaction
Qualifications
- A high school diploma/GED
- At least 21 years of age
- A Food Handlers Permit (or willingness to obtain one)
- A current and valid driver’s license and minimum liability insurance
- The ability to calmly and repetitively model appropriate behavior in difficult or challenging situations
- The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both residents and team
- The ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and oral correspondence
- Experience working in a residential care facility
- Experience working with individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness
- Previous experience caring for children or adults
Skills
- Ability to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds in order to assist in life skills
- Specific vision abilities may include close vision; color vision and the ability to adjust focus
- Exposure to outside weather conditions while working with residents
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud
