Position Summary

The Resident Assistant, or RA, is a caregiver providing assistance to residents under the supervision of the LPN and/or RN. Resident Assistants provide compassionate care that is respectful of each resident's needs, values and wishes.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Supports the Trinity/SPHP Vision, Mission, Values in all encounters with residents and families
  • Adheres to the SPHP Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrates accountability as an individual and team member in meeting basic resident and family needs
  • Provides the following nursing services under the supervision and direction of an LPN or RN across the continuum of care at SPHP:
    • Aid residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and mobility in a respectful, compassionate manner
    • Aid residents in taking medications as needed
    • Encourage and support resident independence and dignity
    • Monitor resident safety and well-being, reporting any change to the LPN
    • Consult with the LPN/RN on any changes of health statuses of residents
    • Build meaningful relationships with residents, understanding their personal histories, preferences and routines and anticipate the needs of residents
    • Help with light housekeeping and meal service as needed to maintain a safe and clean-living space
    • Participate in team meetings and communicate/collaborate with coworkers and supervisors
    • Promote a warm, friendly, and respectful environment

Education Requirements

  • Must possess patience, empathy and a genuine desire to help others
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous experience in senior care, health care or assisted living preferred, but not required
  • Must be able to:
    • Follow care plan and safety protocols
    • Work with residents in a highly personal manner during stages of acute and chronic illness

Pay Range

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
