About the role

The Resident Assistant/Personal Care Aide (PCA) provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living to residents of the community. Reports incidents involving residents—including care concerns or issues—to appropriate individuals (e.g., HCD, RN/LPN, or ED).

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living
  • Perform housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, and dining room as directed by supervisor
  • Respond promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts; remain calm and competent during emergencies
  • Assist in planning and conducting activity programs for residents
  • Follow confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information
  • Assist residents to and from the dining room and activities
  • Check on residents, ensure attendance at meals and activities
  • Monitor residents who are ill and report status or concerns to appropriate individuals
  • Communicate verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers
  • Assist new residents with move-in transition and provide emotional support
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successfully completed approved personal care aide program per state regulations as applicable
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel
  • Contributing member of nursing team; follow instructions of supervisor
  • Polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times
  • Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs
  • Able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics
  • Wear designated uniform during working hours, including name badge
  • CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire
  • Represent the community in a positive and professional manner
  • Attend and complete all required in-services and staff meetings
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays
