Resident Assistant

Pay rate: $18.09–$22.05 per hour (varies with experience). Part-time, 20 hours per week.

About the role

Provides direct care to residents under the supervision of the RN Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support for resident grooming according to the resident’s care plan:
  • Bathing
  • Shampooing hair
  • Eyes and glasses care
  • Oral hygiene
  • Shaving
  • Ear care and/or hearing-aid care
  • Nail care (filing as requested)
  • Morning, evening, and night care
• Provide for the maintenance and rehabilitative needs of residents according to the resident’s Care Plan:
  • Assuring safe mobility and ambulation
  • Encouraging active exercise through formal on-site classes or 1:1 walks in/out of the building
• Assist the RN Nurse Manager by gathering, reporting, and documenting information requested by the residents’ physician:
  • Temperatures (oral)
  • Collection of urine and stool for testing
  • Weight
  • Changes in resident functional abilities
  • Medication assistance and recordkeeping
  • One-person transfer assistance (on/off toilet, in/out of chair, in/out of bed)
  • Assistance with unmanaged incontinence (toileting schedule, clothing management, hygiene)
  • Oxygen, ostomy, and catheter care
• Maintain a safe, clean environment in the resident’s apartment:
  • Make resident’s bed daily (change linens weekly or as needed) and empty trash daily
  • Straighten kitchenette area as needed
  • Maintain a clean bathroom daily; provide input to housekeeping to keep the apartment neat
• Communicate pertinent information to the RN Nurse Manager or LPN on duty at shift change
• All other job duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification as a NYS Home Health Aide or Personal Care Aide
• Previous experience as a home health aide or working with the elderly is desirable
