Responsibilities
- Provide a supportive and respectful presence for shelter residents.
- Aid residents with basic needs, such as access to meals, hygiene supplies, and bedding.
- Maintain order and address conflicts or issues that arise.
- Incentivize residents to engage in shelter programs and activities.
- Collaborate with Security to ensure the safety and security of the shelter facility and residents.
- Enforce shelter rules and regulations.
- Conduct regular rounds of the shelter to ensure safety and security.
- Carry out safety checks and searches as necessary.
- Assist with shelter intake and discharge procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of resident occupancy and shelter activities.
- Help keep the shelter environment clean and organized, including sanitizing sleeping areas, moving furniture, sanitizing walls, floors, and ledges, and swapping mattresses as needed.
- Prepare vacated units for new residents by cleaning bathrooms, shampooing carpets, cleaning kitchen areas, setting up furniture, and assisting with moving items down to the 1st floor.
- Perform nightly ES laundry, clean the welcome center, clean staff bathrooms, restock storage room shelves, and assist with building chores.
- Accurately monitor and document medication intake and any observations.
- Complete shift reports.
- Respond to and de-escalate crisis situations.
- Contact emergency services as needed.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
- Ability to enforce rules and maintain boundaries.
- Empathy and compassion for individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
