Researcher in molecular and physiological regulation of muscle glycogen degradation using novel preclinical models
About the role
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) is an academic research center pioneering groundbreaking research toward better cardiometabolic health, located in the Maersk Tower at PANUM, University of Copenhagen. The Sakamoto Group studies molecular mechanisms of cellular energy sensing and metabolic balance, focusing on post‑translational modifications and allosteric regulation of signaling proteins and metabolic enzymes. This project aims to elucidate the molecular and physiological mechanisms controlling skeletal muscle glycogen degradation using novel genetic models that affect allosteric ligand binding or phosphorylation‑dependent regulation of muscle glycogen phosphorylase, combined with muscle‑specific glycogen synthase deletion to alter glycogen content, and integrates structure‑guided mutagenesis, in‑vitro enzyme kinetics, and in‑vivo substrate utilization measurements with stable isotope tracers in diverse preclinical models.
