About the role

The Alignment Research Center (ARC) is a non-profit research organization whose mission is to align future machine learning systems with human interests. Our current research focus is developing a theoretical foundation for mechanistic explanations of neural network behavior.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement algorithms for predicting neural network behavior through mechanistic analysis of weights.
• Contribute to the development of methods that are more computationally efficient than sampling.
• Collaborate with other researchers to build and test new methods for understanding and controlling neural network behavior.
• Write technical reports and papers to document findings and share insights with the broader research community.

Requirements

• A strong background in machine learning, computer science, or a related field.
• Experience with neural networks and deep learning frameworks.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience in machine learning research.
• Publication record in top-tier conferences and journals.

Skills

• Proficiency in Python and other programming languages commonly used in machine learning research.
• Experience with data preprocessing and model training.
• Knowledge of statistical and probabilistic methods.
