Position Specifics

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Hematology Oncology in Hershey, PA is seeking a full-time entry-level Research Technologist for the Cygan Lab, PSCI. This position will study the molecular contributions to bleeding tendency in carriers of hemophilia. Individuals eager to perform research that utilizes a wide variety of molecular techniques and clinical assays are encouraged to apply.

About the Role

This position requires proficiency in cell culture, strong organizational skills and ability to perform and troubleshoot experiments with minimal supervision upon training. Minimum Education, Work Experience & Required Certifications: Bachelor's Degree, No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education. Required Certifications: None.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, design and conduct clinical research projects/experiments
  • Investigate and evaluate research methods, advise faculty/researchers on optimal use of methodology
  • Collect, correlate, analyze, summarize and report on results
  • Identify data integrity issues
  • Train users in equipment operation and research techniques
  • Oversee daily operations of projects
  • Conduct clinical research projects or experiments
  • Ensure protocol adherence
  • Review progress and evaluate results
  • Perform a variety of experimental tasks including preparing specimens, microscopy, surgical procedures, labeling, cell cultures, and molecular and cell biology techniques
  • Execute and develop data collection procedures; record, correlate, and analyze data; prepare analysis summaries
  • Oversee the processing and archiving of clinical samples according to trial protocols
  • Contribute to the design of research methods; identify potential problems; recommend solutions and technical approaches for problem solving
  • Make recommendations for the use of data collection, management, and visualization software
  • Train users in equipment operation and research techniques; explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, limitations, and outcomes
  • Develop project protocols; provide input in determining feasibility of goals and objectives; responsible for assuring quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness of assigned projects
  • Author papers, proposals, presentations and reports in order to disseminate findings to the larger research community
