About the role

Responsibilities

• Supports research activities in the Hughes' Lab at Sonoma State University, focusing on monitoring and restoring coastal ecosystems in northern California.
• Works under the supervision of the Director of Operations and additional work direction from the Principal Investigator (PI).

Requirements

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by a course in statistics; additional experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• One year of experience in technical research or statistical work, and/or one year of graduate study in relevant fields such as biology, environmental science, oceanography, conservation, or similar.
• A Master’s degree in a relevant field of science: biology, environmental science, oceanography, conservation or similar.
• Strong writing and analytical/quantitative skills.
• Experience doing field work related to marine ecosystems.
• Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
• Knowledge of Google Suite, data management and analysis platforms including Excel, R, RStudio, Github, and PeopleSoft.
• Ability to successfully complete a pre-placement exam to confirm diving and field work capabilities.
• Valid California Driver's License, California Boater Card, and AAUS certification for vehicle and equipment operations.

Benefits

• Full-time, temporary, non-exempt position.
• Salary range: $4,595 - $6,694 per month (step 1 - step 20).
• Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience.
• Reappointment dependent on performance and administrative/budgetary considerations.

• 15 paid holidays annually and a Personal Holiday.
