About the role

Primarily responsible for assisting with husbandry and physiological experiments in awake rabbits, including neurophysiological data collection using custom software. Data analysis, figure making, and record keeping. Additional work will include running neural simulations using custom software and creating figures for manuscripts and grant applications. Ability to work in a lab team environment with a diverse group of personnel is essential. Will be supported by NIH/NIDCD R01010813 until November 30, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Physiological experiments: Work either independently or collaboratively. Physiological recordings sessions with awake rabbits.
  • Data Analysis: Analyzing physiological recordings, record keeping, making figures.
  • Husbandry: Care, record keeping, and transportation of animals from vivarium to laboratory.
  • Communications, Lab Meetings: Keeping the lab group updated on progress in physiological experiments as well as with simulations.
  • Computational Modeling: Running simulations of population responses to test hypotheses about neural encoding of information about complex sounds, including speech.
  • May provide general support and supervision of lower-level technicians: Works closely with staff to understand the principles of compliance, confidentiality, and other ethical obligations involved in conducting research.
  • Other job duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED and 1 year experience performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities, compiling and collecting data and preparing reports required.
  • Associate's degree or BS degree in Biomedical Engineering, Physiology, Biophysics, Neuroscience, Linguistics, Health Science, Biology, Chemistry or other science related field of study preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year of technician experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Skills

  • Technical skills include Matlab and other basic computational skills preferred.
  • Experience with caring for and handling lab animals preferred.

Pay

$20.34 - $28.51 per hour
