Responsibilities
- Assist and support scientific investigation to study autoimmune disease as directed in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology and Immunology
- Independently conducts assigned experiments
- Performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis
- Sorts and processes tissue and blood samples
- Tests and evaluates current procedures
- Performs routine procedures on lab animals
- Records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results
- Affirms the validity of data obtained from experimental procedures
- Sumsmarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts
- Prepares research progress reports
- Assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts
- Covers library research on requested topics through researching current literature
- Oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities
- Assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation
- Sets up and operates laboratory equipment
- Maintains accuracy of research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed
