Research Study Coordinator Sr

Target hiring range for this position will be between $23.20-$28.99 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

About the Role

Coordinates and completes the day-to-day administrative and technical activities involved in a single complex, large, nationwide or multiple moderately complex concurrent biomedical and/or social-behavioral research study(ies) involving multiple sites and/or longitudinal assessments/interventions. Ensures that all activities are completed by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and all relevant current local, state, and federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy, and procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).

Dr. Callie Walsh-Bailey’s team in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is seeking a Senior Research Study Coordinator to support a diverse research portfolio focused on closing gaps between what is known and what is done (“know-do gaps”) in healthcare delivery—also known as implementation science. This position will work across two projects focused on understanding and improving the delivery of evidence-based practices to improve care for complex chronic health conditions, including cancer and diabetes.

This position would be ideal for individuals looking to pursue an MPH or PhD in public health, health services research, or another related discipline; planning to attend medical school in the future; or interested in pursuing a career as research staff (e.g., becoming a project manager in the future).

Responsibilities

Technical

• Participates in the planning and conduct of research studies.
• Reviews project and protocol and recommends strategies to expedite study.
• Recruits and retains participants.
• Obtains informed consent.
• Administers tests and/or questionnaires following protocols.
• Collects, compiles, tabulates and/or processes responses.
• Gathers information.
• Monitors and maintains systems for effective participant and data flow for studies.
• Conducts qualitative interviews.
• Maintains qualitative and quantitative research data.
• Assists with IRB documentation and compliance.
• Conducts literature reviews.

Administration

• Manages study databases which may include ensuring that data is collected and entered correctly.
• Reviews and analyzes data.
• Creates computer models, graphs, reports, and summaries for use in publications, professional journals, and grant applications.
• Co-authors scientific papers for presentation and publication.
• Creates and maintains study manuals regarding operating, safety, and other procedures.
• Ensures that all study documents associated with current local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws, and research protocols are completed in a timely manner.
• Coordinates study team meetings.
• Creates and maintains study record-keeping systems and tracks study deliverables and timelines.
• Supports the study team and collaborating partners by scheduling meetings and providing meeting minutes in a timely manner.
• Contributes to conference presentations, manuscript writing, and other dissemination activities.

Finance

• May process payments for research participants per study protocol.

Supervision

• Acts as a mentor in regard to education of junior coordinators.

Miscellaneous

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 4 years' research study or other relevant experience required; OR
• Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 2 years' research study or other relevant experience.
• Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants and must re-certify every 3 years.

Skills

Minimum Competencies

• Strong organizational, written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and web-based applications.

Preferred Competencies

• At least 2 years of research experience, such as experience with:
  • Participant recruitment and enrollment.
  • Quantitative and/or qualitative data collection (e.g., administering surveys and interviews).
  • Qualitative coding and analyses.
  • Coordinating with various members of a study team (e.g., research staff and investigators).
  • Maintaining qualitative and/or quantitative research data.
  • Assisting with IRB documentation and compliance.
  • Contributing as co-authors on reports, presentations, and publications.
• Knowledge about and/or experience with implementation research.
• Working knowledge of REDCap, as well as design and data visualization skills.
