About the role

The Kelly Lab seeks a research specialist for Fall 2026. The lab conducts research in the field of behavioral neuroscience, aiming to determine the neural underpinnings of various social behaviors. The research specialist will work with the principal investigator (PI) and undergraduate students on projects examining spiny mouse grouping behaviors. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in working with non-human animals, conducting rodent neurosurgeries, and performing immunohistochemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
  • Sets up experiments as prescribed by the principal investigator.
  • Participates in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering supplies, inventory, and media preparation.
  • Maintains records, files, and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
  • Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants, and seminar presentations.
  • May be required to work with, take precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required by the principal investigator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; remote work options may be granted at department discretion.
