Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and manage research projects identifying novel therapeutic strategies to provide neuroprotection and improve functional recovery after ischemic stroke.
- Utilize in vivo animal models, slice electrophysiology, histological/immuno-histochemical analysis of cell death, flow cytometry, and neurobehavioral testing for interdisciplinary studies.
- Develop and implement study goals and objectives, conceptualize and conduct moderately complex laboratory experiments, and apply advanced molecular, cellular, or other specialized techniques.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee data collection, processing, and analysis; interpret research findings; and develop or refine methodologies, experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical approaches.
- Establish research controls, criteria, and standards, perform critical literature reviews, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations for national and international conferences, workshops, and seminars.
- Assist the PI in preparing grant proposals to secure new or renewal extramural funding, identify potential funding sources, and participate in budget development and expense monitoring.
- Ensure laboratory safety and regulatory compliance (OSHA, local, state, and federal); oversee proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials; and manage daily laboratory operations.
- Train and supervise research staff and students, coordinate procurement of supplies and equipment, provide technical oversight, and manage service contracts and repairs.
Requirements
- Master's Degree or equivalent experience required; 3 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree, or 1 year of relevant experience required with Master's Degree.
- Considerable experience in a biological/health research capacity is required.
- Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
