About the role

The Nurse Scientist promotes and coordinates nurse-led clinical research, evidence-based practice projects, and quality improvement initiatives across the Alaska regions. This role leads activities to foster a culture of professional practice and excellence in clinical outcomes, serving as a liaison to system-level Nursing Institute initiatives including Magnet,® Clinical Scholarship and Inquiry, Quality Improvement, and the Institutional Review Board.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate nurse-led clinical research, evidence-based practice projects, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Promote adoption of a culture of professional practice and attainment of excellence in clinical outcomes.
• Serve as a liaison to system-level Nursing Institute initiatives (e.g., Magnet, Clinical Scholarship and Inquiry, Quality Improvement, Institutional Review Board).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field.
• Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare, Business, or other related area. If the master’s degree is not in nursing, then the baccalaureate degree or doctorate must be in Nursing.
• Direct to Master’s Degree in Nursing Program and Registered Nurse licensure (also called Accelerated Nursing Degree Programs) meets the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree requirements.
• BSN to PhD program, with or without a formal master’s degree, meets this requirement.
• Ph.D. in Nursing, Education, or related program.
• Completion of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.
• Alaska Registered Nurse License (upon hire).
• Professional certification in this field approved by ANCC, such as Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP), completed within 2 years of hire.
• 5 years of acute care nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year of experience as a PI or CoPI, or directing one or more research studies (may be gained during enrollment in an accredited PhD or EdD program).
• 1 year of teaching research processes to/for RNs (may be gained during enrollment in an accredited PhD or EdD program).
• 1 year of success in securing extramural funding for research.
• Primary authorship of a peer-reviewed publication.
• 5 years of leading or facilitating quality and evidence-based improvement projects (may be gained during enrollment in an accredited PhD or EdD program).

Pay

The pay range for this position is $65.24 - $102.99 per hour. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
