About the role

The University of Virginia School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Scientist position to work in the lab of Dr. Lian-Wang Guo, Department of Surgery, with a focus on vascular epigenetics.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct independent and collaborative research in vascular biology, with an emphasis on epigenetic mechanisms underlying vascular wall remodeling and disease.
  • Lead and contribute to the preparation of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Participate in grant applications.
  • Supervise and train graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements for laboratory research.

Requirements

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in biomedical sciences or master’s degree with significant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques, including CRISPR-based epigenetic and genome editing, CUT&Tag, scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, ChIP, proximity ligation, and microscopy.
  • Demonstrated experiences in cell signaling, epigenetic regulations, physiology and vascular diseases.
  • Demonstrated skills in rodent microsurgery.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Pay

$65,000-$68,000, commensurate with education and experience.

Schedule

This is an exempt-level, benefited position.

This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability. This position has a term limit of 3 years after which continued employment will depend on department need and funding.

Location

This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
