About the role
Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is looking for a talented research scientist to work on an innovative project involving the design, microfabrication, and benchtop characterization of neural interfaces for multimodal recording and stimulation of the central and peripheral nervous system. This position may be filled as part-time or full-time (37.5 hours per week), depending on candidate availability.
Responsibilities
- Propose and lead independent research goals within the scope of projects.
- Contribute to developing and documenting research findings and collaborate in writing scientific papers.
- Act as team leader, providing project management direction.
- Lead research efforts within the main goals of the project and help coordinate interactions with other team members and universities.
- Write documentation, technical papers, progress reports, and participate in meetings/committees.
- Design and implement neural interfaces, design experiments, and perform in vivo electrophysiology experiments on rodents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills
Required
- Experience with multi-modal neural interface design.
- Experience with ultrasound imaging system design and operation.
- Experience with electrophysiology instrumentation.
- Experience with electrical neural recording and stimulation.
Desired
- Microfabrication.
- Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations (piezoelectrics and acoustics).
- Discrete electronic design (Analog and digital design using COTS, schematic and layout design, microcontroller programming, PCB prototyping).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others and follow detailed protocols accurately.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
