RESEARCH SCIENTIST

UAB Neurobiology is seeking a skilled Research Scientist to contribute to active research projects requiring specialized knowledge of ex vivo slice electrophysiology, molecular neuroscience, and animal behavioral assays.

About the role

This position will oversee projects within the laboratory and assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab experiments. The role operates with a moderate degree of independence and requires effective communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Perform established laboratory assays and generate data
• Interpret and perform graphical analysis on data
• Troubleshoot new protocols
• Write and maintain lab protocols
• Oversee junior scientists
• Monitor project deliverables
• Write manuscripts and contribute to research grants
• Contribute to research planning and design
• Collaborate with peers and adhere to established protocols
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Doctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR
• Master’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

• Doctorate degree in neuroscience, with a specialization in ex vivo slice electrophysiology tools
• At least 3 years of relevant prior laboratory research experience
• Additional molecular biology experience
