PatchPlus Consulting (PPC), through its technology division PatchPlus Technologies (P2T), is seeking a highly motivated Researcher to support Department of War (DoW) research, development, prototyping, and capability development efforts. This position is ideal for an early-to-mid career researcher who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and transitioning innovative concepts into operational capabilities.

About the role

The Researcher will collaborate with scientists, engineers, software developers, military subject matter experts, and government stakeholders to support and/or lead concept development, applied research, experimentation, prototyping, and technology transition activities across both customer-funded R&D and Internal Research and Development (IR&D) initiatives. The role primarily supports remote work with periodic travel for customer engagements, experimentation events, demonstrations, conferences, testing activities, and team collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct applied research, experimentation, technical analysis, modeling, and prototype development supporting DoW technology and capability development efforts.
  • Design and execute research studies, technical evaluations, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and technology assessments.
  • Collaborate with engineers, software developers, military subject matter experts, and government stakeholders to develop innovative mission-focused solutions.
  • Develop research methodologies, test plans, evaluation criteria, and technical recommendations.
  • Support concept development, technology maturation, and transition activities across R&D and IR&D initiatives.
  • Prepare and present research reports, white papers, technical briefings, sponsor presentations, and other technical documentation.
  • Support proposal development, research planning, and technology roadmapping activities.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams supporting AI/ML, cybersecurity, data analytics, GIS, training technologies, and related research initiatives.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoW SECRET Security Clearance (minimum).
  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical field with 3-7 years of experience, or a PhD with up to 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in research, technical analysis, experimentation, modeling, prototyping, or technology development in one or more of the following areas:
    • Generative and Agentic AI technologies, methodologies and applications; AI/ML
    • Data Science and Advanced Analytics
    • Knowledge Graphs, Semantic Technologies, Ontology Engineering
    • Cybersecurity Engineering and Operations
    • GIS and Geospatial Analytics
    • Digital Engineering or Decision Support Systems
    • Human Performance, Learning Sciences, or Training Technologies
    • Modeling and Simulation
  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, C++, C#, Go).
  • Experience developing software applications, APIs, services, or distributed systems.
  • Understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and secure coding practices.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, presentations, white papers, federal R&D grants and proposals (DoW preferred), or other research documentation.
  • Familiarity with research methodologies, data analysis, and technical evaluation techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TOP SECRET clearance.
  • Experience supporting DoW, Intelligence Community, or Federal Government R&D programs.
  • Experience managing/directing or supporting SBIR/STTR, OTA, rapid prototyping, experimentation, or advanced technology development efforts.
  • Experience with cloud environments, data platforms, and research toolchains.
  • Experience operating in classified environments and/or a record of technical publications, presentations, patents, funded research, or technology transition activities.
