Research & Quality Laboratory Technician

Support the Ardent Mills Analytical Services Central Lab by performing analysis including wet chemistry, experimental milling and baking, and bio-chemical analysis of grains, seeds, and flour products. Perform calibration checks, preventive maintenance on lab equipment, and other quality control activities. Communicate results accurately and proactively identify and resolve inaccuracies. Maintain certification in all tests performed and participate in internal and external cross-checks. Support R&D, Product Development, and Instrumentation initiatives, including evaluating new technologies and developing new methods.

Responsibilities

• Work safely in a laboratory environment, adhering to all AM Food Safety and EH&S policies.
• Support daily prioritization and preparation of incoming samples for testing.
• Analyze grains, seeds, flours, bakery mixes, and finished product performance using wet chemistry, experimental milling and baking techniques, and bio-chemical analysis.
• Reliably generate, record, and communicate accurate results using appropriate tools.
• Perform routine calibration and maintenance of lab equipment to ensure accuracy.
• Operate laboratory equipment interfaced with computer software and troubleshoot issues to identify root causes.
• Support maintenance of electronic databases and timely documentation of results in laboratory notebooks.
• Generate simple reports as directed.
• Provide technical support to cross-functional teams, including innovation, renovation, mill-related initiatives, evaluation of new instrumentation, and development of new test methods.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe lab environment by following proper policies and procedures.
• Maintain stock of supplies and communicate needs to purchasing agent.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Demonstrated knowledge of good laboratory techniques and scientific methodology.
• Attention to detail and ability to keep details organized.
• Flexibility, organization, and ability to handle changing priorities.
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
• Willingness and ability to work with a sense of urgency.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize assignments.
• Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and technical procedures.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (preferred).

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Able to lift 50 lbs (20 kg).
• Flexible work conditions (office, laboratory, pilot plant, coolers, freezers, and plant environment).
• Able to work with and consume wheat products; no wheat/gluten sensitivity, intolerance, or allergies.
• Willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

Pay

The starting range for this position is $25.90 - $34.57 per hour, with additional earning potential based on experience. Eligible for a targeted annual bonus of 5% under the Management Incentive Plan (MIP).

This role is based at the Ardent Mills Innovation Center (AMIC) in Denver, Colorado. Regular on-site presence is required to perform the essential functions of the role.
