Research Professional I

The SMART Pharmacology laboratory (Department of VetMed-Precision One Health) studies how drugs act across biological scales, combining patient-derived organoid models with quantitative pharmacology to advance precision therapeutics for animals and people.

About the role

This is a one-year term position, with potential for renewal based on performance and availability of funding. The incumbent will keep equipment in proper working order, maintain inventory, prepare stocks and buffers, order supplies, and ensure overall lab organization and safety compliance. They may also maintain and generate animal-derived cell cultures (2D cell lines and 3D organoids). This employee should be very organized and have good communication skills. All work will adhere to standard laboratory practices. Responsibilities may also include data collection, analysis, and interpretation, and presenting research findings to other staff.

Responsibilities

• Clean, maintain, and prepare supplies and work areas.
• Restock buffers, tips, and perform deep cleaning of Biosafety cabinets and incubators.
• Lab maintenance to comply with all safety regulations of hazardous waste, biosafety, and chemical inventory of the laboratory.
• Lab organization and equipment maintenance.
• Autoclaving biohazard waste and restocking 70% ethanol cleaning solutions.
• Development and/or updating of biosafety and animal protocols. (70% of time)
• Maintenance of in vitro cell cultures.
• Maintain research protocols, standard operating procedures, and training manuals to support multiple research projects conducted by faculty, staff, and students.
• Assist lab members with data collection.
• Conduct analysis of data, interpret results, and implement research methodology based on the outcome of analysis, including support of pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic evaluation. (30% of time)

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field of science.
• Basic cell biology or laboratory experience.
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications

• BS is preferred for this position.

This position is benefits-eligible, full-time, and follows an 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday schedule; evening and weekend work may be required.
