About the role
This is an advanced technical leadership position for highly experienced Certified Veterinary Technicians within the Clinical Investigation Center (CIC). The role exercises high autonomy and technical authority to manage complex medical research in clinical and preclinical environments.
Responsibilities
- Advanced Clinical & Surgical Leadership (80%)
- Independently manage study lifecycles, including owner recruitment, screening, informed consent, and enrollment.
- Perform complex interventions such as CSF sampling, tissue biopsies, and IV, IP, SC, and PO dosing.
- Lead anesthesia protocols, including complex drug calculations, induction, and maintenance.
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert in surgical assisting, anesthesia, or preclinical modeling.
- Navigate hospital systems (VetView) to handle study scheduling, diagnostic orders, and financial charge captures.
- Regulatory & Ethical Oversight (10%)
- Ensure compliance with IACUC, USDA, and AAALAC standards.
- Apply GLP and GCP guidelines for FDA and regulatory submissions.
- Contribute to drafting and refining animal use protocols and SOPs.
- Translational Research & Mentorship (10%)
- Collaborate with researchers to validate animal models for human disease pathology.
- Train and mentor less experienced CIC staff, veterinary students, interns, and residents.
- Provide operational recommendations for hiring, assignments, scheduling, and work direction for student workers.
Work Location & Schedule
- 95% on-site with minimal remote time allowed for administrative tasks.
- Requires lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs regularly, standing for 8-hour shifts, and performing tasks requiring high-precision fine motor skills.
Requirements
- A valid Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license.
- A BA/BS degree plus 2 years of related experience, OR a total of 6 years of combined related education and work experience.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deep familiarity with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and GCP (Good Clinical Practice) regulations.
Pay
Pay Range: $36.00/hour, depending on education, qualifications, and experience.
