Research Postdoctoral Fellow - Causal Inference Pediatric Epidemiology
A postdoctoral fellowship opportunity in pediatric causal inference at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. The lab is led by Dr. Elizabeth Diemer and focuses on developing and applying causal-inference methods to large observational datasets in child health.
About the role
Under the guidance of a principal investigator, you will assume responsibility for a specific, on-going research project. The experience is designed to extend, refine, and enhance skills necessary for professional and career development while broadening your scientific background through new research capabilities. You will conduct independent scholarly research, contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project and the research group, participate in project planning, record and interpret/evaluate data, and communicate results.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent scholarly research and develop new methods and protocols
- Participate in project planning, recording, and evaluation of data
- Acquire technical, lab management, and grant-writing skills
- Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions, and presentations at national meetings
- Supervise junior lab members
- Assist with other research projects in the lab
Requirements
- Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH, or equivalent)
- Ability to wear a respirator device
About the Laboratory
Dr. Elizabeth Diemer’s group is based in the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The lab develops and applies causal-inference approaches for pediatric and child-psychiatry research. Projects primarily use large longitudinal cohort studies and electronic health record data to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of early-life treatment and prevention strategies for psychiatric disorders and other pediatric outcomes. Fellows will collaborate on projects that may involve instrumental-variable analysis, competing risks, target-trial emulation, g-estimation of structural nested models, and/or partial identification.

Pay
Annual salary range: $20,800 – $110,400 (full-time). Part-time pay is adjusted accordingly. For Research Post-Doctoral Fellow roles, refer to CHOP’s postdoctoral salary guidelines.
