Research Nurse - Breast Medical Oncology

We are seeking a Research Nurse to join our Breast Medical Oncology team. Our department is dedicated to improving survival rates for breast cancer patients, advancing research, delivering patient-centered clinical care, and promoting cancer prevention, education, and outreach—with the ultimate goal of eliminating breast cancer.

About the role

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, detail-oriented Registered Nurse who is flexible, eager to learn, and open to a hybrid work schedule. While prior research nursing experience is preferred, it is not required. We welcome candidates with a foundation in inpatient, acute care, or outpatient experience.

This role requires onsite presence for patient visits, orientation, training, and required meetings. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts, and adjusts to patient clinic needs.

Responsibilities

• Protocol Management: Apply clinical and research knowledge to effectively manage research protocols. Participate in fiscal activities related to clinical research. Communicate effectively with the research team. Document and organize protocol-related items in accordance with protocol guidelines, institutional and departmental policies, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and federal regulations.
• Data Management: Demonstrate knowledge of the research process, Code of Federal Regulations, and ICH Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP). Ensure competence in key aspects of data collection and entry, incorporating institutional guidelines. Apply knowledge of NCI-Common Toxicity Criteria and institutional reporting requirements. Maintain the quality of protocol-specific data.
• Clinical Practice: Apply the nursing process and incorporate national and institutional standards of nursing practice in delivering care to patients enrolled in research protocols. Demonstrate clinical competence in care delivery, adhering to institutional guidelines and protocol policies. Document patient care and outcomes per institutional, federal, and protocol standards.
• Education/Team Orientation: Apply principles of the teaching/learning process to address patient and family learning needs. Identify experiences to increase knowledge and participate in educational activities.
• Communication/Respect: Accept and incorporate constructive feedback into professional practice. Locate and utilize institutional and departmental policies and procedures. Provide excellent customer service to patients, monitors, sponsors, and multidisciplinary colleagues.

Requirements

• Education:
  • Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
• Work Experience:
  • Required: 1 year of Registered Nurse experience.
  • Preferred: Prior experience as a Research Nurse, or prior inpatient, acute care, or outpatient experience.
• Licenses and Certifications:
  • Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification upon hire.
  • Preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification as required by the patient care area.

Pay

Salary range: $77,500 – $116,500 USD (midpoint: $97,000 USD).

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts. Hybrid schedule with onsite requirements for patient visits, training, and meetings.
