Stony Brook University’s World Trade Center Health Program provides comprehensive care to the WTC 9/11 responder community. The Research Laboratory Specialist will track and process blood samples for studies examining the long-term health effects experienced by WTC responders, with the goal of improving treatment strategies for WTC-related illnesses.
Responsibilities
- Process various blood samples to prepare them for storage and analysis.
- Log and track all World Trade Center blood samples from the Westbury and Commack clinics, sending a daily report.
- Collect and transport all World Trade Center blood samples at least once a week for long-term storage at Stony Brook University Hospital.
- Ensure lab equipment is maintained in good working condition, supplies are stocked, and the lab remains clean and organized.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field.
- Previous internship or work experience in a laboratory or research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of full-time lab experience.
- Experience administering research-based assessments.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
Schedule
- Full-time, FLSA Non-Exempt position (eligible for overtime).
- Must be willing to work and travel between the Westbury and Commack clinic locations.
- Occasional evenings and Saturdays required.
Pay
$38,000–$50,000 per year.
Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines, and the availability of funding. This position is unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.
