Responsibilities

  • Order laboratory reagents and maintain laboratory stocks.
  • Schedule and maintain records of equipment/facilities maintenance.
  • Aid in developing plans for research projects and discussing the interpretation of results.
  • Write reports, keep data records, and assist in preparing scientific manuscripts for publication.
  • Assist greenhouse staff with the maintenance of plant materials as needed.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated skills in basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques, including gene cloning, gene transformation, and gene expression analysis using PCR, qRT-PCR, immunoblot analysis, and RNA seq.
  • Basic bio/chemistry work (e.g., buffer and media preparation).
  • Basic statistical knowledge.
  • Basic bioinformatic analysis and computational work.
  • Prior experience with plant growth and cell culture is a plus but not essential.
  • Interest and ability to work with undergraduate and graduate students and assist in various research support roles with visiting scientists and scholars.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline, preferably biology, biochemistry, and plant sciences.
  • Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience.

Skills

  • Self-directed and capable of working independently.
  • Basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques.
  • Basic bio/chemistry work (e.g., buffer and media preparation).
  • Basic statistical knowledge.
  • Basic bioinformatic analysis and computational work.

Benefits

The anticipated hiring range is $47,000 – $49,000, commensurate with education and experience.

This is an exempt-level, benefited position based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
