About the role

A full-time Research Assistant position is open in the Department of Pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The laboratory develops and applies ultrasensitive protein detection technologies, including single molecule array (Simoa) and Molecular On-bead Signal Amplification for Individual Counting (MOSAIC), for biomarker detection and diagnostic applications.

The candidate will develop, optimize, and perform ultrasensitive single- and multiplex protein assays to measure low-abundance biomarkers in human biofluids. Specific applications may include cancer biomarker detection and validation, early disease detection, treatment-response monitoring, and other diagnostic applications.

The role provides opportunities to interact and collaborate within the broader Harvard Medical School and Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering research environments.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform routine and non-routine experiments of moderate to high complexity, including:
  • Preparing reagents
  • Conjugating and evaluating antibodies and other binding reagents
  • Developing and optimizing Simoa and MOSAIC assays
  • Generating calibration curves
  • Performing single- and multiplex biomarker measurements in human biofluids
  • Evaluating assay performance and troubleshooting experimental procedures
• Calculate, transcribe, and analyze data using moderate to advanced statistical techniques
• Perform literature searches, prepare presentations and progress reports, and assist in preparing manuscripts for publication
• Communicate progress professionally with collaborators and the scientific community
• Collaborate with PI or Research Manager to establish new and modify existing research techniques
• Coordinate schedule of tests and procedures
• Document experimental work accurately and in detail
• Coordinate lab activities such as bio-safety trainings
• Assist in the orientation and training of new staff
• Order and manage inventory of laboratory supplies

Requirements

• BA/BS in biological, chemical, physical, or related science required
• Prior laboratory research experience preferred but not essential (experience may be through academic coursework, internships, or employment; 1-2 years preferred)
• Sound analytical and organizational skills
• High degree of computer literacy
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to logically and effectively structure tasks and set priorities
• Ability to identify potential problems and troubleshoot solutions
• Ability to accurately document, analyze, and interpret experimental data
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment
• Strong attention to detail and ability to perform quantitative laboratory procedures accurately

Additional details

This is an onsite, full-time position located at 60 Fenwood Road, with scheduled weekly hours of 40 during the day.

Pay
