About the role

This position assists the Principal Investigator in the George A. “Doc” Lopez, MD Lab for Regenerative Cell Therapy at the Department of Neurosurgery, Mass General Hospital. Primary responsibilities include assisting with cell manufacturing in a cleanroom, adhering to strict protocols, recording procedures and results, performing environmental monitoring, and maintaining aseptic technique in ISO 7 and ISO 5 settings. The role requires dependable availability per set lab schedules, including some weekends and occasional holidays, with flexibility to assist the team as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
• Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
• Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
• Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
• Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.
• Assist cleanroom Operators in following strict protocols for cell manufacturing in controlled spaces.
• Perform environmental monitoring and comply with aseptic gowning and manufacturing protocols.
• Maintain databases used in the lab and order necessary reagents for experiments.
• Participate in joint upkeep of the lab, including clean-up of controlled spaces in accordance with SOPs.
• Maintain a current and accurate inventory of reagents and supplies, place orders, and assist with purchasing records.
• Promote and maintain cGMP standards during cell manufacturing, including following manufacturing worksheets, data recording, and documentation maintenance in accordance with Good Documentation Practices.
• Collect and record data, follow relevant SOPs, and assist with quality control experiments.
• Operate and maintain moderate to complex lab equipment such as incubators, tissue culture maintenance equipment, centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, microscopes, and other scientific equipment.
• Teach moderately difficult to complex lab techniques to students and research personnel.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field preferred.
• Prior laboratory experience through academic coursework, internships, or employment (1-2 years preferred).
• Experience with stem cell technology, cell and tissue culture, and/or Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards is a plus.
• Bachelor of Science degree in molecular/cell biology or a related field (or in progress, with a six-month grace period from hire date to provide degree equivalency verification; up to 1 year if starting per diem).
• Successful completion of aseptic gowning training and ability to maintain aseptic technique in ISO 7 and ISO 5 settings.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently after training, and good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well as part of a team under the supervision of the GMP manager.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Skills

• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
• Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
• Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.

Pay

$21.00 - $29.01/hourly (Grade 5).
