The Grousbeck Gene Therapy Center at Mass Eye and Ear has an open position for a Research Assistant to assist in the application of novel gene therapy modalities. The Center provides a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment that pursues the common goal of developing therapeutic gene transfer in future medicine. We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the Gene Transfer Vector Core within Grousbeck Gene Therapy Center. The primary responsibilities will include AAV vector production, purification, and quality control to support preclinical research projects. Experience with molecular biology, cell culture, or viral vector production is preferred. Familiarity with standard laboratory techniques and maintaining accurate experimental records is desirable. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects are essential. A bachelor’s degree in biology, biotechnology, molecular biology, or a related field is required. Responsibilities

• AAV vector production, purification, and formulation
• Mammalian cell culture and transfection
• Vector genome titration and routine quality-control assays
• Preparation of buffers, reagents, and production materials
• Maintenance of batch records, sample tracking, and documentation
• General laboratory maintenance, inventory, and equipment support
• Follow established SOPs and biosafety procedures

Requirements

• BS/BA in biology or related discipline
• Experience in or willing to learn AAV production
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Work primarily in a research laboratory setting; may require exposure to bio‑hazardous or toxic substances

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Candidates completing their bachelor’s degree have a six‑month grace period (up to one year if starting per diem) to provide degree equivalency verification
• Experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree
• Prior laboratory experience (academic coursework, internships, or employment); 1‑2 years preferred

• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures
• Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments
• Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
