Research Health Science Specialist
About the role
This position serves as Without Compensation Research Health Science Specialist within the Office of Research and Development (ORD). The VA Research Program strives to promote Veteran-centered care to improve patient experiences and outcomes across VA healthcare and community settings, and to advance value-driven care by providing Veterans the highest quality care at the lowest financial burden.
Responsibilities
- Providing operational support and coordination for the implementation of VA research and quality improvement projects as directed.
- Handling project questions and problems independently.
- Managing timelines and deliverables for successful completion of the projects.
- Measuring small metabolites and environmental chemicals to support population health research with veterans and military health system cohorts.
- Maintaining liquid and gas chromatography coupled multistage/high resolution mass spectrometer systems.
- Preparing samples, conducting data acquisition, processing data, and generating reports.
- Using targeted and untargeted analytical methods.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Experience: Measuring small metabolites and environmental chemicals, and preparing samples; managing liquid and gas chromatography coupled multistage/high resolution mass spectrometer systems; utilizing systems and control software specific to instruments manufactured by AB Sciex and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
- Educational Background: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. The degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
