Responsibilities
- Apply scientific expertise to manage all facets of Komen’s research grants program, including application, peer review, contracting, grant initiation, and post-award management.
- Develop requests for applications and support peer review processes, including administrative timelines, reviewer selection, eligibility reviews, scientific discussions, and feedback to applicants.
- Facilitate grants initiation by ensuring timely communication of requirements, reviewing funding overlaps, compliance documentation, and other pre-contracting matters.
- Monitor active grants by reviewing scientific and financial reports, approving/denying payments, overseeing closeout processes, and escalating issues to leadership.
- Maintain accurate grant records in tracking sheets and databases to support reporting and evaluation of Komen-funded research.
- Support research portfolio data management, including database maintenance, grant classification, data validation, and record accuracy.
- Assist in evaluating Komen-funded research programs by collecting, organizing, and analyzing grant, survey, and program data to track outcomes and impact.
- Engage with grantees through welcome calls, regular communication, conference meetings, and engagement activities to foster relationships.
- Support communications efforts by providing lay-friendly descriptions of funded research, participating in webinars, presentations, and interviews to highlight Komen’s research impact.
- Provide subject matter expertise to support revenue opportunities and relationships with the Development and Communications teams.
- Stay current on scientific funding trends, identify process improvements, and uphold Komen’s principles of scientific excellence, fairness, and transparency.
- Promote a culture of trust, mission commitment, scientific integrity, and professional growth.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in cancer biology or another biomedical science field.
- 2–5 years of postdoctoral fellowship experience with a publication history in breast cancer research.
- Understanding of the research funding landscape, grant application, peer review processes, and grants management concepts.
- Experience in evaluation, data collection, and data analysis.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills to handle complex workflows with multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Exceptional writing and speaking skills, with the ability to communicate scientific concepts to lay audiences.
- Positive approach to work, flexibility, cultural awareness, and sensitivity to relationships, security, and confidentiality.
- Strong service and customer relationship skills.
- Ability to travel up to 25%.

Pay
Approximate salary range: $60,000 to $77,000. Exact compensation is based on factors such as skills, experience, labor market, job level, internal equity, and budget.
The physical location for the selected candidate must remain within the contiguous United States. Any relocation must be pre-approved by Komen’s HR team.
