About the role

The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, invites applications for the position of Research Fellow specializing in Volcanology/Geology.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research on active and potentially active volcanic systems in the Caribbean region.
• Develop and implement monitoring strategies for volcanic hazards, including seismic, geodetic, and gas-emission techniques.
• Analyze geological, geophysical, and geochemical data to assess volcanic risk and inform disaster preparedness plans.
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences.
• Supervise graduate students and contribute to curriculum development in volcanology/geology.
• Engage with government agencies, regional organizations, and communities to translate research into policy and public awareness initiatives.

Requirements

• PhD in Volcanology, Geology, Geophysics, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in volcanic hazard assessment, monitoring techniques, or related research areas.
• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed scientific literature.
• Experience with fieldwork in volcanic environments and proficiency in relevant analytical tools (e.g., GIS, remote sensing, geochemical modeling).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders at all levels.
