Research Engineering Scientist Associate I
Salary
The annual salary for this position ranges from $45,000 - $50,000. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
Purpose of Position
The Research Engineering Scientist Associate I supports a variety of research, technical, and regulatory activities by conducting investigations, collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports and documentation, and assisting in the development of proposals, studies, and publications. The position contributes to engineering, environmental, and community-focused projects by evaluating technical information, applying relevant standards and regulations, and ensuring accuracy and compliance in project documentation.
Essential Functions
- Carry out research activities, investigations, and technical inspections in support of assigned projects, including data collection, surveys, fieldwork, and follow-up investigations as needed.
- Analyze, evaluate, and interpret technical, engineering, or environmental data to support program objectives, regulatory compliance reviews, research studies, or public water system evaluations.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, documentation, and calculations for research projects, investigations, proposals, regulatory reviews, publications, and database entry.
- Develop or assist with proposals, project plans, and technical materials for federal, state, or institutional programs.
- Provide technical assistance and communicate with stakeholders, including agency staff, collaborators, engineers, faculty, students, and the general public.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance in documentation and data systems, including reviewing files, completing required checklists, entering data into state databases, and making necessary corrections.
- Support team operations through mentoring, collaboration, administrative tasks, training, and performing other duties as assigned to meet project or program needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, natural resources, data analysis, public utilities, business administration, or a related technical/scientific field and at least six months of relevant experience in engineering, research, environmental quality, data analysis, or related technical work
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more years of experience in engineering, environmental quality management, public utilities, research, data analysis, or related fields.
- Experience with field investigations, environmental regulations, or compliance review activities (e.g., TCEQ, EPA, TAC 30 Chapter 334)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and common office systems; ability to learn and use databases and specialized software as needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively, follow established procedures, and work independently or as part of a team.
- Proficiency in developing technical reports, proposals, or research publications; experience with federal or state program submissions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex concepts, edit technical documents, and mentor students or new staff.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm
Hybrid eligible
Infrequent travel (i.e., annually) for activities such as job skills training or participating in institutional and client meetings and conferences.
Based on funding availability. The position set to continue until the start of fiscal year of 8/31/2027.
