Florida State University's Department of Physics.

Responsibilities

  • Create, construct and repair highly specialized scientific research equipment and facilities.
  • Assist users in setting up and carrying out experiments.
  • Instruct users in the operation of special equipment and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory.
  • Perform functions in support of assigned responsibilities to include purchasing instrumentation and supplies.
  • Absorb complex experiments to facilitate development of new experimental capabilities including analyzing, modelling, and reporting of experimental data.
  • Interpret and implement policy relative to user utilization of instrumentation.
  • Assist with policy development for overall user program.
  • Maintain technical knowledge and expertise at the highest level and use the knowledge/expertise to identify short- and long-range instrumentation needs.
  • Participate in development of new programs to meets user's needs as they evolve.
  • Independently research and propose solutions that improve experimental capabilities to enhance the user experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in physics or a closely related degree and 3 years (36 months) of experience in condensed matter and/or material physics.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in thermal transport measurements at low temperatures and high magnetic fields.
