About the role
As a Research and Development Scientist, you’ll join in brainstorming exercises for innovation and newness to refresh products and/or improve product lines. You’ll be responsible for developing new products within the manufacturing areas of the Food Division, focusing on bakery and cheese spread product development.
Responsibilities
- Develop bakery and cheese spread products, including pastries, baked goods, confections, candy, pies, cheesecakes, sweet breads, fudge, toffee, cakes, butter cremes, cookies, fruitcake, and highly decorated applications.
- Participate in formulations, recipe changes, improvements, commercialization, line trials, experimental design, ingredient/inventory evaluations, and sensory/organoleptic testing.
- Use creativity and scientific methods to develop recipes.
- Aid the pricing team in determining new product development (NPD) labor costs.
- Confirm the plant has the appropriate equipment and capability to produce designed items.
- Ensure all products are developed using food safety principles and regulatory requirements.
- Commercialize products into the plant to ensure flawless execution of new items.
- Complete formal quoting and cost analyses.
- Monitor deadlines and ensure they are met with process flow through PLEX.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related area.
- 3+ years’ experience with the product development cycle, research methods, analytical equipment, and experimental design.
- Exceptional teamwork and diplomacy skills.
- Experience with experimental design using scientific methodology.
- Strong organizational skills.
