Location: Suwannee (Live Oak, FL) – Full-time staff position.
About the role
Provide regional coordination of activities and communications between Best Management Practices (BMP) project leaders and stakeholders in the Suwannee Valley. Document field studies related to BMPs—including production, nutrient and water use efficiency, yield, and management of vegetable, field, and row crops—and disseminate findings to farmers and stakeholders to promote BMP adoption.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate BMP project activities and summarize field studies and demonstrations in planned reporting formats.
- Document new or improved best management practices for commercial vegetable, field, and row crops, focusing on nutrient and water use efficiency.
- Disseminate BMP findings to stakeholders and farmers to encourage adoption.
- Maintain accurate records of ongoing BMP activities, including findings, summaries, and notes.
- Maintain a basic digital photo history of BMP trials.
- Document progress toward adoption of BMPs and nitrogen-load reductions on regional farms.
- Organize information from multiple platforms into clear reports for diverse audiences.
- Utilize various agricultural technologies and software.
- Perform additional duties as required to support programming needs.
- Drive a state vehicle to various work sites.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with applied agricultural field research trials, Extension demonstrations, and/or agribusiness.
- Experience with a wide variety of crops and best management practices.
Pay
$49,440 annually.
