Research Coordinator (Bilingual Spanish preferred)

Position Summary

The full-time Research Coordinator will work with Dr. Suzan Walters, Assistant Professor at the Center for Opioid Epidemiology and Policy, Department of Population Health to carry out research-related tasks specific to Dr. Walters National Institute of Health funded projects and other research projects. Dr. Walters research focuses on the social and structural determinants of health among populations who use drugs. She leads the Resilience, Intersectional Stigma, and Empowerment (RISE) Lab, which is dedicated to advancing our understanding of how different types of stigma impact access to services, engagement with care, and health outcomes for people navigating substance use, mental health, and other challenges.

Job Responsibilities

• Participate in primary data collection activities, including participant outreach, recruitment, informed consent and conducting surveys and interviews.
• Oversee grant and Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, documentation and reporting procedures.
• Conduct literature reviews for ongoing research projects and new grant proposals.
• Manage administrative aspects of multiple research projects, including coordinating service agreements with collaborators and service providers, ordering supplies and equipment and processing study-related payments, maintaining compliance with the institutions Business Expense Policy.
• Contribute to mixed methods data analysis tasks, including qualitative coding and data analysis.
• Help prepare manuscripts for publication and grant submissions, including drafting sections, managing data tables and reference lists.
• Assist with project management tasks, including agenda setting, timeline and deliverable tracking, meeting coordination, note-taking, action-item follow-up, and maintaining organized project documentation across collaborators.
• Manage REDCap databases and related study tracking systems, including survey administration, participant tracking, data entry workflows, data-quality checks, and reporting.
• Prepare presentations and reports for collaborators, including data reports/graphs and research summaries for non-academic stakeholders.
• Assist Dr. Walters in carrying out a range of projects in the RISE Lab, maintaining a thorough knowledge of research studies, procedures and deliverables.
• Be part of the larger fabric of the NYU Center for Opioid Epidemiology and Policy, participating in center activities and discussions around substance use research.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in life sciences, allied health or equivalent in a related discipline and 2 years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to work under the direction of supervision.
• Ability to operate research related equipment.
• Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as World, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook.
• Familiar with Internet applications.
• Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
• Time management skills and ability to work well under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in the fields of public health, sociology, psychology or policy.
• 2+ years of work experience in public health or academic/medical research.
• 1+ years of work experience recruiting participants in community settings.
• Some previous data analysis experience using quantitative and/or qualitative statistical software (e.g. Stata, R, SAS, NVivo) and/or familiarity with academic environment.
• Prior experience working with and/or interest in substance use, overdose, harm reduction, health systems and policy translation.
• Strong writing, communication and inter-personal skills and interest in translating research for non-academic audiences.
• Highly detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and self-driven, with demonstrated ability to manage timelines, track deliverables, maintain clear documentation systems, and follow through on multiple projects simultaneously.
