Job Summary

The Research Coordinator serves as a central support role for complex large-animal research projects involving sheep, swine, and calves. This position is responsible for coordinating the logistics, data management, and daily operational needs of studies that require careful planning, consistent oversight, and hands-on technical involvement. Working closely with veterinarians, faculty investigators, and research teams. The role ensures that animals, facilities, personnel, procedures, schedules, and study records are aligned to support smooth and efficient project execution. The position balances direct animal care and procedural support with significant responsibilities in project coordination and documentation, providing continuity and organizational structure across multiple concurrent and long-term research efforts.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Affords assistance in composing and organizing research reports and manuscripts to provide updates on unit objectives
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for research supplies, equipment, and facilities
  • Tracks supply and equipment inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • Affords assistance with conducting experiments or interviews, collecting and analyzing data, and documenting results according to established protocols
  • Maintains organization of research records according to established policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working in large animal research, veterinary clinical settings, or livestock-based agricultural operations (e.g., handling livestock species such as swine, sheep, or cattle; supporting animal care protocols; assisting with clinical or herd procedures, etc.)
  • Experience coordinating complex activities or projects to support research, clinical, or operational work (e.g., managing schedules, organizing multi-step procedures, coordinating staff and resources across teams, ensuring tasks are completed in proper sequence, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan, prioritize, and execute multi-step tasks or projects (e.g., anticipating next steps, developing timelines, aligning personnel/equipment, completing work with minimal direction, etc.)
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly to team members, veterinarians, and researchers (e.g., coordinating with staff across locations, documenting procedures, providing project updates, clarifying expectations, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions (e.g., adhering to research protocols, SOPs, clinical procedures, and regulatory requirements, etc.)
  • Formal education, training, or equivalent experience in veterinary technology, animal science, biological sciences, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with research data systems, databases, or documentation workflows (e.g., entering and maintaining study data, managing records, supporting data integrity and reporting processes, etc.)
  • Experience assisting with advanced procedures or intensive research protocols (e.g., supporting surgical procedures, specialized animal care, complex sample collection, or technical research activities, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, improve, or streamline organizational systems or workflows (e.g., creating tracking systems, improving scheduling processes, standardizing documentation or SOPs, increasing operational efficiency, etc.)
  • Experience working in environments with regulatory, compliance, or protocol-driven requirements (e.g., maintaining compliance with institutional or federal research standards, following audit processes, ensuring accurate documentation and protocol adherence, etc.)
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT as applicable)

Final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Work Schedule

Scheduling for this position will be based on 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Occasionally early and late hours. Weekends and holiday rotations required for this position.
