About the role

Responsibilities
- Designs, creates, and maintains secure, repeatable cloud solutions via Terraform and CloudFormation templates (or equivalent solutions) to enable the adoption of cloud services in the research community.
- Participate in cloud service design, development, delivery, and continuous improvement program.
- Support hybrid or cloud only, containerized, and/or serverless solutions through CI/CD processes.
- Execute the provisioning of secure, repeatable cloud solutions to enable effective use and adoption of cloud for research related use cases.
- Optimize cloud computing costs, assist the community in developing realistic cloud computing budgets, and setup effective alerts.
- Self-starter with a drive to work autonomously as a member of a collaborative team.
- Able to identify the advantages/disadvantages of competing tools or services among on-prem vs. in the cloud across different cloud providers (i.e., AWS and Azure).
- Communicate effectively through verbal and written means with practical diagramming and documentation abilities.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study.
- Minimum of 1 year of professional level IT experience within Cyberinfrastructure (CI) Research Computing including the design and implementation of advanced high performance computing systems; data (acquisition, storage, management and reporting); and networks in support of research initiatives.
- Experience with building and managing Azure and/or AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with system administration/Engineering/DevOps.
Qualifications
- Experience with AWS services such as CloudFormation, ParallelCluster, EC2, S3, VPC, GuardDuty, CloudTrail, ECS, and EKS and their equivalent counterparts in Azure such as CycleCloud, Secure Enclave, Storage Accounts, VMs.
- Experience with developing cloud and/or hybrid solutions for projects with sensitive datasets (e.g., HIPAA, NIST, CMMC).
- Experience with network file systems, networking, databases, and shell scripting.
- Exposure to high-performance computing and job schedulers.
- AWS Professional or Azure Expert certifications or ability to pursue within 24 months of hire.
- Exposure to Infrastructure-as-a-Code tools such as TerraForm.
- Exposure to configuration management tools such as Ansible.
