About the Role
In this mid-level research assistant position, you will provide general and technical assistance in support of a specific research program under the overall supervision of a Principal Investigator. Responsibilities include clerical tasks, laboratory maintenance, ordering and inventorying supplies, data collection and analysis, and preparing illustrations for publication. Unlike entry-level roles, you will carry out defined tasks with some independence, initiate new procedures to improve laboratory operations, and assist in training students and entry-level personnel.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to the Principal Investigator in carrying out laboratory experiments, including preparations to ensure successful execution.
- Manage laboratory operations, including maintaining inventories, ordering supplies and equipment, and cleaning the lab.
- Collect, analyze, and document data under the direction of the Principal Investigator, including performing statistical analysis and operating electronic equipment.
- Maintain laboratory records, paperwork, vendor files, and purchase tracking.
- Participate in grant-writing and serve on committees as requested.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree, advanced training, or equivalent experience highly preferred.
- One year of laboratory experience required.
- Experience with grant writing preferred.
Skills
- Clerical and general laboratory maintenance skills.
- Ability to instruct human subjects and operate mechanical/electronic instrumentation.
- Proficiency in writing or operating computer programs, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, image analysis, statistical analysis, and scientific graphing programs.
Licensure may be required depending on the specific position.
Preferred Experience
- Molecular work (western blots, IHC, genotyping).
- Behavioral work using established preclinical research models.
- Familiarity with confocal microscopy and image analysis software (e.g., ImageJ).
- Preclinical surgical techniques and colony management.
- Neuroscience background.
Pay
USD $25.83 - USD $36.93 per hour.
