Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of small molecule and dye processing, purification and characterization steps to support the generation of new materials
- Purify aqueous dyes using common biochemistry techniques (filtration, SEC, etc.)
- Characterize materials by various chromatography methods, including HPLC/SEC/IEC or IEX (Ion-exchange) chromatography using established standard processes
- Perform small scale dye labeling / bioconjugation reactions according to established standard processes
- Perform established reactions to convert/activate functional groups
- Optical characterization of the polymer dyes including measurement of absorbance and fluorescence emission spectra.
- Support documentation and archiving of R&D results in company databases
- Prepare outgoing materials and supporting (QC) documentation
- Provide assistance as needed to maintain functioning laboratory; including glassware cleaning, material ordering, inventory control and other duties
Requirements
- Successful candidate will possess a B.S. Degree in Chemistry or similar Life Science and a minimum of 1 year of relevant industry experience preferred or a combination of equivalent education and experience
- Bench chemistry experience in protein conjugation
- Basic experience in analytical instruments, such as HPLC, UV-Vis, Fluorometer
- Documentation, basic data compilation into report experience
- Ability to follow established reaction protocols and standard processes
- Familiarity with separation/purification methods is a plus
- Works in a team based environment
- Multi-task to cover a variety of job functions
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to maintain neat, accurate and complete notebook and batch records
- Ability to independently perform and analyze data and identify issues in routine tests
- Familiarity with operation of routine laboratory instruments and applicable software
