Research Associate II- Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory
About the role
The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) at the Frederick National Laboratory seeks a skilled laboratory technician to support the development and implementation of emerging technology for cancer research. The CRTP is a hub for enabling external cancer research and focuses on the NCI RAS Initiative and the Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory (NCL).
Key Roles/Responsibilities
- Establish, maintain, and manipulate cell cultures, including traditional 2D, 3D, and organoid cultures.
- Execute cell-based toxicity and efficacy assays (e.g., MTT, LDH).
- Perform in vitro immunotoxicity evaluations using multicolor flow cytometry and supernatant analysis.
- Operate real-time metabolic analyzers (e.g., Seahorse XF) and analyze data related to cellular metabolism and mitochondrial function.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university recognized by CHEA in Immunology, Bioengineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant laboratory experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic mammalian cell culture, including primary cells and immortalized cell lines.
- Hands-on experience with 3D cell models (spheroids and organoids) and specialized assays like extracellular flux analysis.
- Experience with multicolor flow cytometry, ELISAs, and immunohistochemistry.
- Ability to operate real-time metabolic analyzers and interpret OCR and ECAR data.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Experience with engineered nanomaterials or nanomedicines.
- Understanding of preclinical drug development and regulatory guidelines.
- Experience in bioanalytical method development and assay optimization.
Program Description
The CRTP is a multi-disciplinary hub that enables the external cancer research community. It hosts the Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory (NCL) and the Antibody Characterization Lab (ACL), both of which perform and standardize preclinical efficacy and toxicity testing of nanomaterials and monoclonal antibodies. CRTP scientists collaborate with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.

Pay And Benefits
The posted pay range for this job is $70,500.00 - $100,901.00 USD.
