About the role
Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at City of Hope, where faculty and staff are dedicated to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator (or designee), the Research Associate I supports basic and translational laboratory research by performing routine and increasingly complex experiments involving human samples and cultured cells.
Responsibilities
- Perform research experiments involving human samples, primary cells, and cultured cell lines using established protocols and laboratory equipment.
- Assist with human sample processing, cell isolation, cell culture, and preparation of samples for downstream assays.
- Record and validate results for accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct routine cell‑based and immunology assays, including cell counting, culture maintenance, stimulation/co‑culture experiments, and flow cytometry sample preparation.
- Assist with basic data analysis and modify protocols under supervision, as needed.
- Prepare reagents, media, buffers, and other laboratory materials; maintain laboratory supplies, inventory, and organization.
- Contribute to standard operating procedures and research reports as needed.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of experiments, results, and methodology; calculate, graph, compile, and summarize experimental data for review by the research team.
- Develop technical expertise in mammalian cell culture, human immune‑cell handling, and flow cytometry, collaborating with laboratory members to support ongoing studies.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of materials.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences.
- 0–2 years of research/laboratory experience.
- Preferred: Prior wet‑laboratory research experience in cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, or a related biomedical research area.
- Preferred: Experience with mammalian cell culture, human sample processing, or flow cytometry.
- Preferred: Experience with animal handling and mouse models.
