About the role

We are seeking a Research Associate I to support Enteric pathogen research, with a focus on Shigella and other enteric pathogens.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct bench research on Shigella (or other enteric pathogens) subunit or live vaccine candidates.
  • Assist in evaluating Shigella vaccines in clinical and pre-clinical studies, including immunizing small animals, collecting blood, lymph nodes, and mucosal washes, and determining immune responses after vaccination.
  • Support pre-clinical evaluation of prototype diagnostic devices for detecting Shigella and other enteric pathogens from complex biological matrices such as stool.
  • Maintain daily lab operations, including media preparation, glassware management, hazardous waste disposal, and administrative tasks like ordering supplies and conducting lab inventories.
  • Develop and establish laboratory procedures, analyze research data, and collaborate to achieve laboratory goals while maintaining expertise in the field.
  • Apply professional knowledge of molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, and microbial pathogenesis theories, principles, methods, and techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific discipline.
  • Recent college graduate with exposure and interest in biological sciences related to human infectious diseases.
  • Willingness to work with small animals (such as mice or guinea pigs) in a lab environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen (by birth or naturalization).
  • Ability to obtain NACI.

  • Works independently with full responsibility for planning and executing complex projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven track record of research accountability and productivity.
  • Excellent time management and ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with research equipment such as centrifuges, scales, microscopes, gel electrophoresis systems, cell counters, cell separation devices, and fermenters.
  • Experience with procedures including aseptic technique, small animal handling, cell culture, nucleic acid extraction, gel electrophoresis, PCR, protein assays, fermentation, purifications, and immunological functional assays.
  • Fluency with Windows, Apple operating systems, and Microsoft Office software suite.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $57,000 to $63,000 annually.
