About the Role

The Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering within the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University is seeking a Research Associate. This position involves research in flight vehicles and subsystems, simulation development, and collaboration with teams. West Virginia University is an R1 research institution with a main campus enrollment of over 29,000 students, located in Morgantown—a highly ranked small city near Pittsburgh, PA, and Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

• Develop flight vehicles and subsystems mathematical models and integrate them within a comprehensive simulation environment.
• Perform simulation tests and analyses.
• Write reports, proposals, and technical documentation.
• Disseminate research results through technical publications.
• Interact with collaborating teams.
• Travel to technical meetings organized by the sponsor and/or technical conferences as needed.
• Provide departmental support by teaching engineering courses when required.

Requirements

• PhD in Aerospace Engineering.
• Experience in modeling and simulation of missile systems dynamics, including actuators and sensors under normal and abnormal operational conditions.
• Experience with artificial intelligence techniques for aerospace engineering applications.
• Strong background and research experience in modeling, simulation, and control of autonomous flight vehicles.
• Significant publication record on modeling, simulation, and analysis of missiles and other autonomous flight vehicles.
• Ability to work on multiple teams and large projects.
• Strong communication skills and experience writing progress reports and documentation.

Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to teach engineering undergraduate courses is a plus.
