About the role

The Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at West Virginia University seeks a Research Associate to join the AI+Health Engineering Center (AI+HEC). AI+HEC is a collaborative research center focusing on improving health and well-being through advanced artificial intelligence techniques and large-scale biomedical datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on computer vision, deep learning, large language models, generative AI, applied mathematics, bioinformatics, and biomedical image analysis, particularly on high-resolution histopathology images and cardiac images.
  • Develop new algorithms and techniques using AI, machine learning, and large language models to analyze various types of biomedical data.
  • Collaborate with other researchers at the center to determine the specific direction of their research projects, based on their interests, and within the scope of the collaborative projects at the center.

Requirements

  • PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, biomedical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with machine learning/deep learning/data analytics and proficiency in scientific computing using one or more of the major programming languages/environments (Python, PyTorch, Matlab, C/C++, or R).

Qualifications

  • Strong background in computer vision, deep learning, large language models, generative AI, applied mathematics, bioinformatics, and biomedical image analysis, especially high-resolution histopathology images and cardiac images.

Skills

  • Expertise in machine learning/deep learning/data analytics.
  • Proficiency in scientific computing using Python, PyTorch, Matlab, C/C++, or R.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
