Research Associate

Institutional-funded position supporting faculty-led research in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Not dependent on grant funding.

About the Role

The Research Associate assists in faculty-led research, operates and maintains scientific instrumentation, coordinates research activities, contributes to the teaching and training of students and research personnel, and ensures compliance with research regulations and procedures. The role exercises independent judgment in troubleshooting experiments, supporting data integrity, and assisting with compliance-related procedures under faculty direction. Reports to the Assistant Dean/Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Responsibilities

• Assist in faculty-led research projects.
• Operate and maintain scientific instrumentation.
• Coordinate research activities and ensure compliance with research regulations and procedures.
• Contribute to the teaching and training of students and research personnel.
• Troubleshoot experiments and support data integrity.
• Train, mentor, and provide functional supervision of students and research personnel on equipment use and laboratory best practices.
• Adhere to all applicable university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Science, or a related field.
• At least two (2) years of experience in a scientific research laboratory.
• Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and related administrative or data-management systems.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent knowledge of laboratory sciences, including animal research, cell culture, chemistry-based methods, and research protocol/safety regulations.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills to support multiple concurrent projects.
• Ability to understand and perform procedures and experiments within areas of formal training, and willingness to learn new techniques and instrumentation.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.

Skills

• Laboratory techniques (animal research, cell culture, chemistry-based methods).
• Training and mentoring students and research personnel.
• Functional supervision of laboratory practices and equipment use.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs of research equipment or supplies.
• Ability to reach overhead, bend, and squat to retrieve laboratory materials.
• Ability to climb stools and/or ladders to reach top shelves.
• Dexterity to use laboratory equipment and tools.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility and/or extended hours as needed to meet departmental goals. Some schedule adjustments may be necessary due to the nature of experiments.

Pay

$45,000 - $52,000 annualized.
