About the role

The Texas A&M University School of Engineering Medicine (EnMed) is a first-of-its-kind program merging medical education with engineering innovation. Based in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, EnMed prepares students to become “physicianeers”—medical professionals with expertise in both medicine and engineering, driven to design innovative, practical, and impactful solutions to revolutionize health care.

This role involves performing independent or supervisory research activities requiring advanced knowledge in a scientific field. Responsibilities include preparing proposals for funding agencies, operating research equipment, and supervising graduate students and other lab or field personnel.

Schedule may require working on weekends and/or after normal hours. Travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Design, plan, conduct, and coordinate experiments in support of various research projects.
• Evaluate, select, and apply standard research techniques, keeping detailed records of data.
• Install, operate, and/or repair research equipment.
• Assist in planning and coordinating research projects.
• Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.
• Evaluate and summarize experiment results.
• Prepare and write proposals to funding agencies and maintain financial accounts related to research projects.
• Utilize summarized results in scientific and/or clientele-oriented publications.
• Train undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical, or field staff involved in research.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of related experience in a specialized and relevant field of research.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in animal science/care and surgery.
• Proficiency in biological assays, including cell culture, ELISA, and qPCR techniques.
• Quantitative analysis using statistical software such as Prism or R.
• Qualitative analysis, including image analysis.
• Data analysis and tabulation of data for publication.

Skills

• Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment.
• Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software.
• Strong attention to detail.
